
Processing Basics was one week workshop at the Hfg Karlsruhe. Primarily designed for non-programmers, it presented an introduction to the syntax and semantics of the Processing programming language, as well as an introduction to computational aesthetics. By creating computer applications, instead of just using finnished software, the workshop should give a deeper understanding of the essential possibilities of computation.
The first part of the workshop focused on the basic programming structures, if statements, repeat loops, variables and routines. Based on this knowledge every student designed a poster by nothing but code. The motivation was to create different kinds of drawing machines defined by more or less complex algorithms.
The workshop was completed by an exhibition at the last day, where the students presented their posters.
